Gujarat BJP leader hangs self, told colleague she was in clinical depression

A 34-year-old Gujarat BJP leader allegedly died by suicide at her own house in Surat after complaining to a local party corporator that she was suffering from “clinical depression”.
According to the police, the woman, identified as Dipika Patel, was working as the president of the BJP women’s wing in Surat’s Ward 30.
On Monday afternoon, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her bedroom, police said, adding that no suicide note was recovered from the home of the woman.
Before taking the extreme step, Patel had called the local BJP Corporator Chirag Solanki, saying that she was suffering from clinical depression and wanted to end her life, police said.
After the call, Solanki informed Patel’s children and also rushed to her home, and broke open the door of her bedroom and found Patel hanging unconscious. Solanki then called a doctor to the home, who advised him to take the woman immediately to a hospital.
Sonalnki then rushed Patel to Surat’s Civil Hospital where she was declared dead by the doctors.
Upon receiving an alert about the incident, the police reached the spot and started their investigation. Her mobile phone has been sent for forensic analysis as part of the probe.
Speaking about the case, Surat Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vijay Singh Gurjar said that Dipika Patel’s children and husband have been questioned, but they have not expressed suspicion towards anyone.
The police have also questioned Chirag Solanki about his relations with Dipika Patel, DCP said.
“Currently, the cause of the suicide is under investigation. Once the data from her phone is retrieved from forensic analysis and the complete call detail records (CDR) are received, those suspected will be questioned,” DCP Gurjar said.
“Chirag Solanki, a corporator, considered Dipika Patel as his sister, and she was the president of the Mahila Morcha in Ward 30. Chirag Solanki is also a BJP corporator from the same ward. He has been questioned about how long they knew each other and what their relationship was. Once the investigation is complete, additional details will be shared,” he added.
