    Description

Rare and original, 1890's Columbia Glass Co Pharmacy / Apothecary / Candy Story Show Globe / Candy Jar with original swirl pattern lid.
This beautiful, Early American Pattern Glass Show Globe measures approx. 15 1/2” tall and 5” in diameter at the base. It features a swirl pattern at the neck and a matching swirl pattern glass stopper. This design was patented and manufactured by the Columbia Glass Co.
A Show Globe is a glass vessel of various shapes and sizes containing a colorful liquid or displaying a product for sale at an establishment. It has been a symbol of pharmacy from the 17th century England to the early 20th century in the United States. It marked the drugstore or apothecary in much the same way as the barber's pole marked tonsorial establishments in some countries. People who were illiterate needed such symbols to locate these medical practitioners. In the late 19th and early 20th century Show Globes were also used to hold brightly colored, penny candy in a Candy Store or a General Store.
This outstanding, late 19th century Columbia Swirl Show Globe / Candy Jar is in excellent condition - clean and clear and exceptionally well preserved with no chips, cracks, discoloration or damage of any kind. The lid is original to the Jar and undamaged.
A rare and beautiful, 1890's Columbia Glass Company Swirl Pattern, Glass Pharmacy / Apothecary / Candy Store Show Globe / Candy Jar and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!

    Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a .00 "packing fee" - the .00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the .00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
