    Description

ESTATE FIND, University of Wisconsin textile professor and world traveller.  Very nice condition, no holes or stains and only some very minor soil possible.  Reportedly purchased in the 1980s.
All wool Andean Indian man's poncho measuring  60 inches long and 39 inches wide, including the applied fringes.  Reported by the previous owner to be from Tarabuco.
This is an all wool man's garment, quite nicely and finely woven. It is made from handspun  wool, hand-woven on an Andean loom.   The two panels are sewn together with a simple chevron stitch. The two panels are similar, as can be seen in the first photo. The dyes appear to be a mixture of vegetal and synthetic.  I would guess the date to be ca. 1960-1980. There is no tubular edging, a handmade fringe has been added on all four sides.
Condition is Very Good, light wear, no repairs noticed, light soil possible.     I do have this weaving in a sealed bag with a few moth balls, so it will have a slight odor when delivered.
This is an authentic indigenous man's garment, not a modern commercial product, all handmade on a traditional Andean ground loom.  It is quite tight and finely woven.
