Description
A very unusual yet striking example of Caithness art glass from Scotland. The company was founded in 1961 by Robin Sinclair in the town of Wick, Caithness, Scotland. After financial troubles it was rescued by George Mackie in 1966; he was to run the company for the next two decades. Although the company was to go through numerous changes/mergers/acquisitions over time, they have come to be known to produce some unusual and highly collectible art glass. Over the past 20+ years their specialty has been paperweights, and, in the case of this example cologne bottles. The bottle stands 5 1/4” tall including the 2 1/2” long ball stopper. The base measures 2 1/2” diameter. As seen in the pictures, a cane with the letters “CG” is visible in the stopper and on the bottom both a paper label with like letters as well as acid etch mark “Caithness perfume bottle Scotland”. After thorough examination, no damage or repairs noted. No staining or residue on the inside from use. I have tried to capture the unusual design Inc. in the clear glass vase, I believe several pictures will capture this unique design. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
Thank you.
