    Description

Caithness Paperweight LILAC CAROUSEL 1 of 1 Signed by Colin Terris NEW in Box
    Years ago, around 2001, t
    he late Colin Terris (1937-2006)
visited our store.  We had a catered dinner with sit down dining and printed invitations mailed to customers. (People called to ask if they should wear evening clothes!) Company representatives set up light boxes upon which to view the gorgeous glass designs.   Colin was charming and entertaining as only he could be, decked out in his Scottish plaid suit with matching vest.  Colin Terris was a master storyteller as well as a world-class glass artist and designer.
We think when they packed for the trip to Houston from Perth, Scotland, Colin grabbed some extra paperweights that were sitting on the shelves in his store-room.  They were coming to Texas, after all, land of the Big Spenders and Oil Money!  Why not bring some special items?  The extra weights were one of a kind pieces, artists' proofs, and design ideas he tested before deciding whether and how many to produce.  "Lilac Carousel" is one of these.
Lilac Carousel, featured here, is one of a kind.  It's the tall Caithness style (100 mm high) with 6 tear drop facets and a base like cut crystal.  The lilac bloom is nestled in the center, in a froth of frosted glass, while above, the weeping petals fall when the blooms died. Can a lilac be a phoenix?  Is this the mysterious cycle of life?  The artist captured the beauty of nature forever, combining skill with vision.
Colin helped usher in the now recognizable style of modern abstract paperweights.  His style was unique at the time, based on his training from master glass artist Paul Ysart.  He made his first paperweights for Caithness in 1969.
    Colin Terris signed this piece:
Lilac Carousel    No. 1/1   Colin Terris   2000   Caithness Scotland
No one else has one.  If you want to add it to your collection, now's your chance.
It's 100 mm (nearly 4 inches) tall.  The base measures 2 3/16" across.  It comes with the original box and the little placard, pictured.   We've had it for almost 20 years, priced as Colin suggested for 0.
Please choose carefully, no returns.  We'll be happy to answer your questions about this gorgeous glass work of art.  It's truly museum quality.
    Thanks for visiting.
