Description
This beautiful and outstanding traditional Armara aguayo is dominated by a dark coffee brown weave with intricate geometric patterns and stripes in deep indigo, burgundy, and white along the center seam and on the sides. The edging around the entire piece is black with a red and white eye-like pattern. A narrow green, white, and red (Bolivian national colors) stripe follows along side the edging in the same direction as the other stripes. Within the four broad stripes is a complicated and finely woven design pattern containing two lines resembling double dashes, alternating green and white, and another stripe of red and indigo upon which is a repeating abstract symbol in white. All colors appear to be from natural dyes. The intricacy and the fineness of the weaving is a marvel. In the hand, this aguayo has a luxurious, supple, and polished feel. Weft thread count is an amazing 42 threads per inch. It was acquired in Cochabamba, Bolivia in 1967.Overall dimension is 37” wide x 42” long.
