Description
Sekil of vertical plates and pillán in lower plate. The sekil are one of the most striking metal jewels that the Mapuche woman wears on her chest on festive or ritual occasions. They come in different sizes and their longitudinal shapes are varied, and there may be plates, tubes or in combination. Its impeccable craftsmanship and original designs translate the skill of the silversmith who embodies the spiritual world in the details.
An example of this is this magnificent piece made entirely of plates, there are seven in total, which are joined by means of wide flat rings. One particularity that draws attention is the vertical arrangement of some of them, which provide slenderness to the design. The piece is adorned by a series of symbolic elements, such as, a row of protuberances alluding to the female belly; curved geometric motifs incised on the margins of each plate as a subtle vegetal border; an openwork human figure that represents an important divinity "pillán", to finally finish off the set in pendants, they are the stylization of some flowers.
A subtle patina covers the surface of the object, accusing prolonged use and the passage of time.
