MILLS 1940'S VEST POCKET SLOT MACHINE VINTAGE COIN OP TRADE STIMULATOR 5 CENT

Description

I repaired slot machines in Maryland until July 1, 1968 when they became illegal.
I kept a couple of Mills slot machines and some parts.
It is now time for me to liquidate my remaining machines and parts.
This auction is for a
Mills Vest Pocket Slot Machine - Trade Stimulator, serial number 17221.  It has not been used for over 50 years.  The mechanism is in excellent condition.  Look at the pictures.
Mills Vest Pocket slot machines were manufactured circa 1933-1952 by the Mills Novelty Company in the U.S. These little, toaster-sized machines were made for the intention of having a fully functioning 5¢ gambling device that did not obviously "look" like a slot machine. In the event of a police raid, the proprietor simply had to "flip" the top award card over, hiding the 3 reels and payout card and making it look like an ordinary radio, gumball machine or toaster. This simple slot machine operates on a single nickel. Put the nickel in the coin slot, push the lever in, and then as the lever is pulled back out, the reels are activated. If the reels stop on a winning combination, the winnings are dispensed to the coin box at the front of the machine.
The top flips open to see the 3 wheel spin.  On the front, you have the flip up where you get you winnings out.
This machine is in excellent working condition. It accepts a nickel and all three reels spin
around. It pays out correctly. There are some chips in the original paint on the case (see pics) but the mechanism
is beautiful. The glass covering the reels is in good, clean condition.  It has an Illinois Lock Company lock and key on it and the back
opens up
without issue.   This may not be the original lock but this is what was on it in 1968 when I got it.  It has been stored in my closet and has not been used for the last 53 years.  As can be seen in the pictures, the rubber feet on the bottom are still in very good condition, considering their age.  This machine weighs more than 18 pounds.  It measures overall 8" in width by 8" in height by 11" in depth.   It has the U.S. Pat #s dated May 9, 1933 and May 16, 1933.   An excellent addition to any antique collection or if you just want to own a really neat old slot machine.  I am selling this item with no reserve.
