Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton in talks to helm Spider-Man 4

The next Spider-Man movie might have just found its director. Marvel Studios alum Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed 2021’s Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and the upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man, is in talks to helm Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 4 – according to US entertainment outlet The Hollywood Reporter.
Prior to his work with Marvel Studios, Cretton directed the acclaimed film Short Term 12 which starred Brie Larson and Rami Malek. He has also been tapped to write and direct a live-action film adaptation of the hit manga series Naruto for Lionsgate.
The follow-up to 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home will reportedly start shooting in 2025. However, there’s no confirmation if main stars Tom Holland and Zendaya will reprise their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Michelle Jones-Watson respectively.
Holland previously said that he was open to doing more Spider-Man films, only if the story is right.
“I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy.
“So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
Despite being released during the COVID-19 pandemic, Spider-Man: No Way Home earned over US$1.9 billion globally and is currently the seventh-highest grossing movie of all time.
